Tuesday–Sunday from 9:00, Monday from 12:00. Summer hours extend to 19:00. Last entry one hour before closing — here's everything you need to plan your visit.
Bran Castle is open Tuesday through Sunday from 9:00 AM to 6:00 PM (18:00). On Mondays the castle opens late at 12:00 noon — a detail that catches many visitors off guard. During summer (May–September) the castle stays open until 7:00 PM (19:00). Last entry is one hour before closing. The castle is open year-round with no seasonal closures, but hours on Christmas Day and a handful of Romanian public holidays differ — see the table below.

The Monday late opening (12:00 noon) is the single most frequent source of visitor frustration at Bran Castle. Do not plan to arrive in the morning on a Monday — you'll find the gates shut. If Monday is your only option, use the morning to explore Brașov Old Town (30 minutes away) and arrive at the castle after noon.
Hours are consistent within each season — no weekly changes within the bands below.
On Halloween night (31 October) the castle operates special ticketed evening events with extended hours — typically opening after dark and running until midnight or later. Standard daytime tickets are not valid for the Halloween event. Tickets for the Halloween party go on sale separately in summer and sell out months in advance.
Bran Castle can have queues of 45–60 minutes at busy periods. Arriving at the right time makes a significant difference.

How queue length and crowd density vary across the opening hours
The first 90 minutes after opening are consistently the quietest of the day. Arrive at 9:00 AM (or 9:15 to beat the opening-time surge) and you'll walk straight in. The castle's narrow staircases flow freely before the tour groups arrive.
Peak visitor hours coincide with the mid-day tour group arrivals from Bucharest and Brașov. Queue at the ticket booth can reach 45–60 minutes. The internal staircases become bottlenecks. Fast Track tickets are worth the extra cost in this window.
Most tour groups have left by 4:00 PM, and crowd levels drop noticeably. The light through the castle windows is also better in late afternoon. Allow at least 1.5 hours before last entry — don't cut it close, especially in standard season when last entry is 17:00.
Bran Castle is generally open on Romanian public holidays but hours can vary. Verify with the castle directly for any date below.

In the standard season (October–April): Tuesday–Sunday 9:00–18:00, Monday 12:00–18:00. In summer (May–September): Tuesday–Sunday 9:00–19:00, Monday 12:00–19:00. Last entry is one hour before closing. The castle is open year-round except Christmas Day (25 December).
Yes, but it opens late. On Mondays Bran Castle opens at 12:00 noon rather than 9:00 AM. The closing time is the same as other days (18:00 standard, 19:00 summer). This late Monday opening is the most common cause of visitor frustration — do not arrive at the castle on a Monday morning expecting to get in.
Last entry is one hour before closing. In standard season (October–April) that means 17:00 (5 PM). In summer (May–September) that means 18:00 (6 PM). Arriving close to last entry is risky if there is a queue — you may find the entry closed before you reach the front. If you're arriving in the late afternoon, aim to be at the gate at least 30–40 minutes before the last entry cutoff.
The castle is closed on Christmas Day (25 December). On most other Romanian public holidays it remains open with standard or slightly reduced hours. New Year's Day and Orthodox Easter Sunday can have altered hours — the table above gives guidance but always confirm directly with the castle when visiting around a public holiday.
The two quietest windows are 9:00–10:30 AM (right at opening) and after 4:00 PM. The castle is busiest between 11:00 AM and 3:00 PM when tour groups from Bucharest and Brașov arrive simultaneously. Weekday mornings in spring or autumn are the most crowd-free option overall. If you must visit on a summer weekend, the Fast Track ticket (150 RON / ~$33) bypasses the standard queue and is genuinely worth it.
You can buy tickets at the gate, and they cost the same as online tickets (90 RON adult). The difference is the queue. At peak times, the queue for gate tickets can be 45–60 minutes. Online tickets let you skip the ticket purchase queue and go directly to the entry lane. Fast Track tickets (150 RON) offer the fastest entry with a dedicated lane.
